Lord, Make Me an Instrument

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Acts 1:8

“Lord, Make me an instrument; put someone in front of me today that you can help through me.”

I pray this little pray every morning as I receive the Blessed Sacrament at mass.  I’ve been doing it for several years now.  It is a powerful prayer and if you are sincere, it works every time.  For me, it is the single most powerful way that God shows his presence as he uses me to do his work.

I began after reading two books that had an impact on the way I looked at serving the Lord.  One was, Ten Prayers God Always Says Yes To, by Anthony DeStefano (Image Books-Doubleday) and the other was, You Were Born for This by Bruce Wilkinson (Multnomah Books).

Anthony said that this prayer is so potent that if it were sold in a supermarket, it would have to come with a warning label: Don’t pray this unless you are prepared for instant results!

If this sounds like an exaggeration it is NOT!  It works 100% of the time and it works every day.  Not a day goes by that I don’t experience God putting someone in my day that I can help.  I just need to be open, keep listening, and the get out of the way long enough for the Holy Spirit to do his thing.

God has been using people as “instruments” since creation, and you can participate by simply “checking in for duty.”  Bruce says, “It just takes a small shift in how we think.”

Tomorrow morning why not join me, say this little prayer and check in for duty, then watch what happens!
